16 August 2011: Updated 4.4GB PDF for the RNZAF Skyhawk donation to FAAM & sale of A-4Ks to public + new RNZAF A-4K/Kahu Skyhawk book by Don Simms info & the launch of Nuship Canberra + Largs Bay Purchase + added more 'how to deck land' information for other aircraft + more LSO stuff + information on Chinese & Indian NavAv developments 'A4G-FAA_Scrapbook_16aug2011_7,812ppFINAL.pdf'. Plus later the 'how to deck land' PDF (now 1.5GB & date 24 March 2011) has been updated for usual reasons. Another news item is the promotion of former A4G pilot Mark Binskin (transfers to RAAF) who becomes air force chief then becoming vice-chief of the ADF & perhaps 'soon to be' CDF in three years. Scroll down....

Another website 'SkyDrive' run by Microsoft is able to host file sizes up to 100Mb (initially only 50Mb hence a bunch of 50Mb files). Go here for these files - look in 'My Documents' folder for other than RAN FAA A4G Skyhawk PDF files:

Adobe can do amazingly stupid things to Adobe Reader and the PDF format to make 'legacy' PDFs unusable. Thank you Adobe.

In the case of Adobe Reader X and Vista you will need to follow this method to view any videos in my PDFs.

____________________

If using latest Adobe Reader X (10.1) in Windows 7 to view PDFs on this page, the advice below is not relevant. The advice on how to use Adobe Reader X (10) in Vista applies only to that Operating System/Adobe Reader combination. Otherwise using Adobe Reader 9.4.5 (equivalent to Adobe Reader X) in Vista presents no problem with viewing embedded videos. So please - if you are using Vista - use Adobe Reader 9.4.5 to view PDFs to be able to see the embedded video clips. Thanks.

Right Mouse Click on Adobe Reader X icon (taskbar, desktop icons only OR "AcroRd32.exe" in your Adobe Folder)

Select 'Properties' then the 'Compatibility' tab then first tick box "Compatibility mode" - TICK "Run this program in compatibility mode for" - 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)'

Click the Adobe Reader X icon to open the program.

A dialog box will open eventually as seen in the .GIF graphic attached.

Select "Open with Protected Mode disabled". The 4.4GB PDF only needs to be opened once using this method so that ordinary security is maintained for other PDFs otherwise.

Any PDF - or this same 4.4GB PDF - that will not play an embedded video will need to have this above method applied subsequently to view any embedded videos.

Tried using Adobe Reader X (10) in Windows XP SP 3, finding that the movies will play when using Compatibility Mode for Windows 2000. Right click on the Reader X icon and select Properties. select the Compatibility TAB and then select/tick box 'Run this program in Compatibility Mode for Windows 2000' as shown in graphic:

UPDATE 16 August 2011: The main 4.4GB PDF about the RAN FAA A4G Skyhawk along with all fixed wing and helicopters - plus info about other users of the Skyhawk, with supporting information about 'how to deck land', LSO and FCLP stuff has been updated - file date is 16 August 2011. Please scroll down the page for the download URL. This update was made with Acrobat Professional Extended 9.4.5 which could not be used (until recently) on the large PDF. Some pages have been re-arranged, putting most 'how to deck land' information at front of PDF, with extra pages added in this update. Also the latest info about the RN FAA situation is included. Adobe Reader 9.4.5 must be used to view this PDF. NEW Adobe Reader X (10) updated to version 10.1 is OK if using Windows 7.

14 Nov 2010: The website RAN A4G Video DVD Download with the Video DVD has become available again. Below is the URL for the specific download page for the 4GB A4G Compilation Video DVD (Please follow the download/installation instructions on this new page carefully.):

01 January 2011: Apologies again for this website being offline for some days recently. Problem due to excessive downloads of the material here. The website is supposed to have unlimited download capability. My apologies for any inconvenience.

Another update to the 4.4GB PDF is available - dated 16 August 2011. Please scroll down the page for link and download instructions. Adobe Reader 9.4.5 or 10.1 (see different Windows OS issues above) must be used to view this PDF.

UPDATE 24th March 2011: New 1.5GB PDF (extracted from the main 4.4GB PDF) about ‘How to Deck Land’ with reference not only to the A4G Skyhawk but to other USN and RN aircraft of that era. In the mid-1960s groups of new RAN FAA pilots were trained in the USofA, instead of with the RAAF in Australia (basic flight training to Wings standard). This meant that these USN trained pilots became carrier qualified in the T-28C Trojan, so this aircraft is included also. More info about FCLP and ‘carrier deck’ at OLF/NOLF airfields is included as well as other NAVY aircraft. Please see the main 4.4GB PDF for supporting information which has been extracted from a recent 24 March 2011 version of the 4.4GB PDF.

Please use a download manager or 'right mouse click' on the download URL below to "Save target as" to your computer. As indicated further down the page all these PDFs must be viewed on 'Windows XP SP2 or above computers' [Windows 7 is best] using the latest Adobe Reader 9.4.5 or better (when available). MAC users will have varying results with these PDFs I'm told (but I don't have a MAC because they are ...).

NEW - 14 Sept 2010: 1.1GB PDF - RNZAF (Royal New Zealand Air Force) A-4K - Kahu Skyhawk pages excerpted from the main 4.4GB PDF with added videos bonus and pages from NAS Nowra for colour and movement about No.2 Squadron RNZAF time there for one decade. The emphasis is on the A4Gs (in RNZAF guise) which became A-4K (Kahus eventually) while the overall history of RNZAF Skyhawks is covered, it is only basic. Please use download techniques outlined further down this page. Only new material in these pages are the extra video clips which could not be used (individual file sizes too large) in the main 4.4GB PDF.

NEW: Older computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (or better) using Adobe Reader 9.4.5 as a minimum requirement to view the 4.4GB PDF may have difficulty due to this large file size, if the older computer capacity is insufficient. To help alleviate this issue a SIX PART version of a recent version 15th September 2010 of this 4.4GB PDF is available for download. Please scroll down for the latest entire 4.4GB PDF dated 01 February 2011.

Last but not least, please use the download method described on this page. In brief: use a download manager or 'right mouse click on the download URL' to then "Save Target As" the file to your computer. Please do not let Adobe Reader download these files (this will happen if you left mouse click on the URLs). YMMV.
